Internal Tank Cleaning
The internal areas of tanks and storage vessels need regular cleaning and maintenance. Dry Ice Blasting is perfectly suited for this type of work due to the dry, clean process of cryogenic cleaning.
The effectiveness of dry ice blasting in storage tanks is enhanced by its ability to access hard-to-reach areas. Tanks often have complex geometries with nooks, crannies, and internal structures that are difficult to clean thoroughly using conventional methods. The small, high-velocity dry ice pellets can penetrate these intricate spaces, ensuring a more comprehensive clean. This is crucial for maintaining the integrity of storage tanks, particularly those used for storing sensitive materials like food products, pharmaceuticals, or chemicals, where contamination can lead to significant issues.
The inert nature of dry ice blasting is also important when working in confined spaces, as we have a low explosive risk rating.
Optimum’s highly trained blast crews are all Confined Space Certified along with holding UKPIA/SPA (Petroleum Industry Association) passports.
This means that we are trained in identifying the unique dangers found when working in confined, dangerous locations.
Some confined space work we have carried out includes:
- Flour storage vessels
- Flour dry line hoppers
- Dry Line mixers
- Vacuum casting machinery
- Autoclaves
- De-Waxing Boilers
- Press Machinery
- Oil Storage Tanks
- Bitumen Storage Tanks
Safety Guarantee
All crews are trained in confined space to level 3. We carry equipment that is ATEX rated from zone 0,1,2 to zone 21, 22. This covers us for both gas and dust explosion risk. Our confined space crews also have ‘man out’ safety retractable lanyards and we work in crews of 3, with 3 way radio communicators for each operative.
