Dry ice cleaning is perfect for removing bitumen from surfaces
Bitumen Removal Using Dry Ice Cleaning
Dry ice blasting is the perfect solution for removing bitumen and tar from a variety of surfaces and across a range of industry, heritage sites and domestic properties.
Due to the extreme cold nature (-79 Celsius) of dry ice blasting, bitumen freezes and becomes brittle on contact with dry ice pellets used in the blast process.
A kinetic explosion then takes place, as the cold, frozen gas expands and vapourises back to gas (known as sublimation).
This process causes the bitumen to dislodge from the substrate it was attached to leaving the surface clean and damage free.
Other methods of abrasive blasting tend to heat the bitumen, due to the abrasive, grinding nature of the media used, causing the bitumen to become sticky and spread.
Dry ice blasting creates no secondary waste unlike sand blasting or grit blasting and we don’t use chemical or cleansing agents, which can also leave ghosting marks after removal.
We can remove bitumen from surfaces such as:
- Concrete
- Railings
- Leaking production valves
- Storage tanks
- Parquet Flooring
- Truck Terminals
- Rail Car Pads
Dry ice cleaning is used across industries such as:
- Bitumen Production
- Coating Applicators
- Construction Companies
- Developers
- Oil Industry
- Rubber Manufactures
- Railway Companies
- Heritage Companies
- Petrochemical Industry
